Grass Roots by luthien27 Grass Roots by luthien27
Grass Roots is inspired by the graceful movement of the art of Ancient Chinese calligraphy and the depth of Chinese poetry.

This mixed media handbound journal is wrapped in black paper and the focal panel is decorated with painting techniques using various types of paints and ink. The old Chinese poem is accentuated with a vintage escutcheon. The artwork is then aged and distressed, and finished with several coats of satin-gloss varnish for protection.

Size : 8 x 7 inches
Pages : Off White, 150 pages counted both sides
Covers : Paper wrapped boards, Mdf
Thread : Beige Nylon
Style : Japanese Stab Binding

* This journal comes in a basic handmade box.

The keyhole is a very beautiful touch.

If I may ask, where do you find all the odd little trinkets you incorporate into your work? Do you plan beforehand and hunt for the exact thing you need, or do you use whatever you happen to find?

hmmm ... nope, i don't usually plan beforehand, not most of the time. even if i did, it would turn out different in the end LOL! i think i'm a "go with the flow" kinda person. as for the trinkets ... i have crazy times when i would browse from morning till night, whether it be etsy or antique bazaars and i just buy whatever attracts me at that time. and then ... hope one day i'll use them LOL!! :)

I always find it interesting to learn how other artists work, so thank you for sharing that! :)
You know, your jewelry has inspired me to start keeping bits and pieces that catch my interest, instead of tossing them away when I find no immediate use. I take a lot of random pictures, too. I hope I can use one thing or the other some time, though it never seems the "right time" for some serious creativity lately. Too much to do.
