“… another opens“ But when all the doors are closed … well … use the damn key!
This piece was totally impromptu. I was mulling over a commission but I just couldn’t reconcile the elements on that and was a bit frustrated. So I started to make a birdhouse out of a piece of scrap copper just to get my mind off the commission for a bit. As always, the mind wandered and I found myself thinking of the quote “when one door closes, another opens”. I said to myself, well, at the moment, ALL the bloody doors are closed on that commission piece, that’s for sure! So what do I do? That’s when my silly mind answered, “use a damn key!”. I laughed out loud. And then I thought … that’s frickin’ funny!!
This piece is an assemblage of repurpose copper, 16/18/24g brass wires augmented by fire, annealed steel wire, a pair of wings finding, antiqued brass chains, old gears, lace, repurpose fabric, clay, paint, paper, resin, an old barrel key, Variscite beads, a piece of Green Turquoise and quite a bit of impromptu brain activity.
*This necklace wears best between 16 and 17 inches round the neck, but the chain is long enough to go to 20 inches.
*The pendant is 5.5 inches from bail to end of chain, and 1.5 inches from wing to wing
